Known as the Swiss Cheese plant because of the splits (fenestrations) and holes it develops as it matures, the Monstera deliciosa is probably one of the most impressive plants in the Araceae family due to the massive size that the plant can grow to. Monstera means monstrous, and it refers to the plant's enormous leaves, and deliciosa means delicious, and it relates to the plant's edible fruit.
Plant Care
Although it can survive in low-light conditions, the Monstera deliciosa grows well in medium to bright indirect light. The plant prefers well-draining soil, but do not wait until the soil dries out entirely to water it. Monstera deliciosa is a climbing plant, so it can be trained to climb if attached to a trellis or other support. Don't forget to rotate this plant to ensure it grows evenly.
